2017 Diorama Competition Images (13 MAR)
This year we split our competition into two parts, Diorama and Display. Diorama being where somebody has created something like a building or the groundwork themselves. Display was pretty much bought items arranged well as it was aimed at getting people to participate and then hopefully next time go for a diorama build. There were nine entrants in each category with oneentering both. This made 17 entrants compared to 13 last year. Probably would have been a few more but the bringing forward of the event by four months caught some out in terms of building time. There was a base size limit of 320 x 350mm although I did mistakenly give a few people a smaller dimension. I did notice somebody particularly keen about asking if there would be a height limit. I said there was none and lo and behold an amazing Waterfall appeared.
Note the British soldier under the river bank 2nd was Brett (not me !) with a Tobruk scene (with medals and helmet displayed)
Andy's Çhoice
2nd Todd with his North Africa dio with 3 SAS Kiwis sneaking up on AK's. Figures all King & Country. Roof timbers are chop sticks. 3rd Mark IV Ambush again Other entrants in historical order below Samurai by Glenn (figures are East of India which we sold several years ago) : French Cavalry (King & Country) V Scots (John Jenkins) by Greg
French attack (all figures King & Country) by Matt Rorkes Drift (figures and sandbags by Britains and building scratcbuilt) by Greg WW1 Rear Lines by Matt (KIng & Country and Thomas Gunn)
Churchill in the desert by Mark (all King & Country) British Paras Ambush (King & Country) by Paul our youngest competitor. Afrika Korps in the desert (Tank from King & Country) Some did raise issues not had before. Whilst they did add to the display the displaying of helmet and medals were appreciated but wont be allowed next time. Otherwise the add ons could get out of control and it is hard to know how they impact on judging / voting. Overhanging of items over the permitted area (ie. canoe) was allowed as the base size did not exceed permitted area. However will probably set a limit on how much items can overhang to allow for items like tank barrels and wings.
