000 Information about Career Frames
Description
Information to help you plan something your family will be proud to display at home.
Frames : We specialise in framing military medals, memorabilia and prints as well as sports items. Most of the frames we use are either brown timber or black as these are most suitable for the framing we do. Whilst we don't have a great variety to choose from this is made up by the fact we buy in bulk and pass on the savings. For the kind of framing we do we are confident there are not many framers around who can match our experience or price (or assisting with the plaque).
Matt Boards : The great majority of the matt boards we use are green and navy blue to represent the Army and Navy and Air Force. When framing military medals etc we use a triple matt. The most popular combinations are Green/Black/Green or Navy Blue/Sky Blue/Navy Blue. Other colours can be used such as Red (for say Artillery or an MP) and Maroon (for VC winner). In the case of some Scottish jobs we have put the appropriate tartan behind the medals or badges.
Medals and Medal Mounting : If you have originals these can be used or we can supply replicas. This is an important decision. If the medals have been in a drawer for years and nobody is likely to want to wear them on ANZAC Day then this may affect your decision. If the ribbon is in bad condition they can be remounted. If you use replicas this will increase
the cost but you will still be able to wear the originals or pass them on to a relative who might want to wear them.
If you are still serving we do not recommend using your originals. If the frame is to feature items from a particular overseas deployment then you can just include the medals for the trip (ie AASM and Iraq). If it is a "career frame then you can include all the medals.
There are three ways to frame the medals. We believe swing mounted seperately looks the best as the matt board behind the ribbon emphasises each one. The other way is court mounted together. Our least preferred way is swing mounted together as it is not easy to fix them in place.
The cost of full size replicas and medal mounting is $20 per replica medal and $16.50 for the mounting.
Plaques : We can arrange a plaque to go into the frame which can contain the following information ; Name,Rank,Number ; Date Enlisted and Discharged ; Deployment dates and mission names ; Unit information ; List of Medals. Plaques can also be used to include medal citation information or more details on the unit served in or about a particular item in the frame.
We will help you with the information to include and provide you with a draft for approval. Each plaque is $20. Please note we only do plaques if they are going into a frame.
Badges and Patches : For these frames we can supply replica Rising Sun badge ($15), Return From Active Service Badge ($10), and "Australia" ($10), Infantry Combat Badge or Army Combat Badge ($10) and sometimes the Corps badge. You can include any original badges or patches.
Photographs : There is no limit to the number of photographs you can include. Marriage photos can be included and if they were married in uniform this is always a nice touch (date of marriage and name can be included on the plaque. Photos of such things as ships or aircraft can also be included (try Google images).
Other Items : We have included such items as flags, banners, challenge coins, rank insignia dog tags, ID, berets etc.
Final Frame Cost : From the above you can cost what is going into the frame. However until we know what is going into the frame it is hard to give an idea of cost. You are welcome to phone us at 07 3855 3566 or email brett@themilitaryworkshop.com to discuss.
