Andy Neilson of King & Country is coming down for his 11th visit and for the fourth time we will have a mini diorama competition.
New and non-collectors and wives and partners welcome.
The VC Suite, Kedron Wavell RSL, 21 Kittyhawk Drive, Chermside (off Hamilton Road, and next to Westfield Shopping Centre).
Dinner will start at 6.30pm but there will be plenty of time to see some displays and the competition dioramas.
Andy also usually brings some prototypes to show us and this year it will include the Australian Centurion tank.
The function room will be open from 3pm for people to socialise with Andy Neilson and other collectors.
Andy Neilson will hold a question and answer session during the dinner.
Dinner will be a buffet and drinks will be at own expense. There will be a lucky draw of at least 10 items.
As per previous years I will try to seat people together who know each other. Tables will be 8-10 people so if anybody wants to arrange their own group please let me know.

Mini Diorama Competition (Note : see below for some examples)
Rules are : The base maximum dimensions are : 350 x x 350 x 350mm (note in order to allow for some larger items an overlap (for say a wing or gun barrel) is allowed for 50mm on each side of the base. .
Figures and vehicles etc must be from brands sold by The Military Workshop (ie. King & Country, Britains, John Jenkins, Thomas Gunn and Collectors Showcase ;
(and East of India and Conte which we previously sold) and your own work. Note : no figure kits, plastic figures or converted or repainted metal figures. If in doubt ask.
You can use any items to create the diorama such as 1/35 plastic building kits, walls etc from different companies such as JG Miniatures, K&C, Hudson and Allan etc. Animals also allowed.
Kits could be from sources like Mirage, Verlinden etc.
No militaria items such as medals, insignia, pictures etc can be used to enhance the display. No text should be included on actual display (but see below about description)
In order to prepare tables and allocate space entrants are requrred to let Brett know how many dioramas entering by 7 July. Larger non-competitive displays also welcome but again please let Brett know.
Backdrop : a backdrop can be used but it must be of a single scene that compliments the diorama. It can be handpainted (must be your own work) or printed off internet. Photos of people or movie images / posters etc can't be used.
Each diorama should come with a printed note with title etc as follows :
Title : (ie Barbarians ambush Romans in Gaul 60AD)
Figure / Vehicle Brands : (ie. Romans from King & Country and Thomas Gunn and Gauls from John Jenkins
Buildings, walls etc (if used) : (ie. Indicate if scratch built, kits used or from brands such as K&C, JG Mins etc.
Groundwork and trees etc : (ie. Trees and base mat from JG Mins, leaves from Hudson and Allan, rocks from garden, and other assorted greenery from several sources.
Backdrop (if used) : (ie. handpainted, downloaded from internet, calender image etc).
No names of entrant to be included.
The note should be printed and brought along by entrant and should be size 12 font. Will be placed in front of diorama.
In the Judges category it is not the number or quality of the bought items that counts but the story being told, groundwork and composition etc.
Display (chosen by Peoples Choice) – as per above.
The display is a more simple form of a diorama but with nothing that has been “made”. Basic base such as a mat or grass base ; can add trees, rocks, walls, fences, fuel drums, ammo boxes, even buildings etc. No backdrops to be used apart from say purchased type buildings, facades or walls etc.
The diorama items, including figures, that can be used can only be from : King and Country, Conte, East of India, John Jenkins, Britains, Hudson and Allan, Thomas Gunn, Collectors Showcase or JG Miniatures. Green grass type bases from Woodland Scenics, JG Miniatures or even brown wrapping paper to represent desert can be used. If in doubt please ask Brett.
Important note on prizes : The competition is meant to be fun and we want to spread around the prizes to encourage participation. It is quite possible one really exceptional diorama could win all three categories. We therefore may "adjust" Andy's Choice but Judges and Peoples Choice will stand. Note decisions are final and no appeals !
If you are planning to enter please let Brett know so we can plan display space. This year to enable quicker and better laying out of the competition tables prior registration will be required (ie. subject or name of display and number of entries so that can allocate a pre-determined space).
Show and Tell
There will be plenty of space for people to set up larger dioramas which would be most welcome. Please let Brett know beforehand.
