Farmhouses and village buildings of lower Normandy are similar to the houses Brittany. Building materials of Granite, Schist and Limestone were readily available from farm fields and local quarries. Most limestone walling was constructed of stone rubble used as found, with dressed stone used for quoins and to frame windows and doors. Our French Café and Apartments represent a typical village building of limestone construction that was updated sometime in the early nineteenth century with a clay tile roof and decorative café front. This piece depicts a structure would be commonly found in Normandy and Brittany. The home is a two-story, half-timber filled with stone rubble and limestone. The storefront is a stuccoed, pest control shop with an eye-catching front window adorned with dead rats and signage reading, “destruction of harmful animals.” It is inspired by an actual shop found in Paris. Measures 9" long x 7/8" wide x 3" tall. These walls have been molded of light weight urethane foam that can be easily cut and modified with a hobby knife. The original patterns were hand built in Hudson & Allen's studio to duplicate a typical stonewall as is often found in northwest Europe. Walls like this have been built for centuries and are still common today. These walls have been hand painted by H&A to represent typical coloring; however if you wish to repaint your walls the use of water based hobby paints for coloring and “white glue” to affix the foam is recommended. This is a 1:30 to 1:35 scale German Brick Wall with German Air Raid /Bomb Shelter Entrance & Sign. It measures approximately 15" long, 3" deep and 4.25" tall to the top of the tile coping. It is constructed of high density, high quality urethane foam and is hand painted and weighs less than 6 ounces. This German Brick Wall with Bomb Shelter Entrance & Sign is typical of the Air Raid Shelters found throughout Germany's many cities, the Bomb Shelter Entrances were hastily made of poured concrete and retained the imprints from the boards of the wooden molds. It comes decorated exactly as you see it. This German Brick Wall with Bomb/Air Raid Shelter Entrance & Sign is compatible with other Hudson & Allen accessories.

This style country stone wall was once common in areas of the North Eastern United States, the UK and some areas of Europe. They often were used to border a front yard from a public road, or to enclose a garden or small barnyard adjacent to the home. These were typically laid dry with no mortar and could easily be added to or changed if needed.
