For service during World War II Australian personnel were awarded Imperial campaign medals. The same medals were issued to all Commonwealth personnel, and in addition Commonwealth countries generally issued a unique medal to recognise the service of their own people. In Australia the Australia Service Medal 1939-45 was issued.
Awarded for six months service afloat, in the Navy, the Merchant Navy and by Army and Air Force personnel serving on HM Ships, in the Atlantic and Home Waters. Awarded to aircrew who have taken part in operations against the enemy at sea within the qualifying areas for Naval personnel, subject to two months service in an operational unit after earning the 1939-1945 Star. Qualifying dates are 3 September 1939 to 8 May 1945. The two clasps issued were Air Crew Europe and France and Germany but regulations only allow one clasp to be worn with the Star.
The above price is for the full size replica medal and 10" (25cm) of ribbon unmounted.
The cost to mount the medal is $16.50. So for example this medal mounted would be $36.50.
This medal is mainly seen in medals sets of Navy personnel and some RAAF. Not that common for Australians.
