Baron Takeichi Nishi joined the Japanese army in 1920 as a cavalry officer, however as Japan modernized its armed forces the cavalry became a tank arm like most modern armies of the time. In 1932 he represented Japan at the Los Angeles Olympics and won a gold medal in the equestrian event.
In a time where Japanese officers traditionally still rode horses, here he is recreated on his favorite horse Uranus. The Baron died during the battle for Iwo Jima in 1944.
